A social highlight for many is the annual gala Trafalgar Night dinner when the club celebrates the remarkable victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, over the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805.
Another annual social high point is a grand dinner in Manila in honour of St. George, England’s patron saint and legendary slayer of dragons.
But St. George is not the only patron saint the club celebrates. St. Andrew, St. David and St. Patrick all have special evenings at the club. Other national days including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India and Canada are also individually celebrated.
In addition to the club’s weekly Tuesday members’ night get together, the club hosts a variety of different occasions to mark special events such as St. Valentine’s Day, Anzac Day, British Sausage Night, British Pub Night, Quiz Night, Christmas Family Day, Christmas Day plus touring British shows like Shakespeare for Dummies and An Evening with Charles Dickens and Mark Twain.
